One credit = one image. Every time AltTextLab generates alt text for an image, it uses one credit from your account regardless of which integration or workflow you use. Credits are shared across all your websites and projects under a single account, so there's no need to split them or manage separate pools per site.

You can see your credit balance and usage history at any time from your account dashboard.

It depends on the plan. Credits on paid plans (subscription and pay-as-you-go) carry forward every month and never expire, you won't lose what you've paid for.

The 25 monthly free credits on the free plan reset each month and do not roll over. If you don't use them, they don't accumulate.

The plugin will pause automatic generation until credits are renewed. Your existing alt texts remain untouched and fully functional. You can upgrade or top-up your plan at any time.

Both give you the same AI quality, but they serve different workflows.

Paid subscription plans renew monthly or yearly and are the better fit if you're generating alt text regularly — for new uploads, ongoing content, or a site with a large existing library. They come at a lower per-image cost, and unused credits roll over each month.

Pay-as-you-go credit packs are one-time purchases with no recurring charge. They're ideal for one-off projects, seasonal needs, or topping up when a subscription isn't the right fit. Note that the Web Snippet, which automatically adds alt text to every image on your site, is available on subscription plans only.

Yes, you can cancel your paid subscription at any time with no penalties. When you cancel, you automatically move to the free plan, which includes 25 credits per month for manual generation through the dashboard or integrations.

Any alt text that's already been generated and applied to your images stays in place permanently – it's written into your CMS or media library and won't be affected. Any remaining paid credits stay in your account too.

One thing to note: the Web Snippet requires an active paid subscription to function. If you cancel, it will stop generating and applying alt text to new images automatically.

Yes. One AltTextLab account covers any number of domains — there are no per-site fees. Your credits are pooled across all your sites, so you can manage a single blog and ten client sites from the same account without any extra cost or configuration.

Yes, your image data is totally safe. Your images are processed to generate alt text and then discarded — they are not stored on AltTextLab's servers. We retain only the generated alt text in your account for your own reference. Your data is never used to train AI models. All payment processing is handled securely through Stripe.
