Firefox Add-on Documentation

The AltTextLab Firefox Add-on helps you create high-quality, accessible image descriptions in just a few seconds.

Right-click on any image, choose “Generate Alt Text,” and the add-on will produce a smart, SEO-friendly description — powered by AI.

Installation

  1. Open Mozilla Add-ons in Firefox.
  2. Search for AltTextLab or follow the direct listing link.
  3. Click Add to FirefoxAdd Extension.
  4. Once installed, open the add-on menu (puzzle icon in the toolbar).
  5. Find Alt Text LabOptions.
  6. Paste your API key (you can generate it from your AltTextLab dashboard).
  7. Save your settings — done!

How to use

  1. Go to any page containing an image you’d like to describe.
  2. Right-click on it.
  3. Select “AltTextLab: Generate alt text.”
  4. Wait a moment — the description will appear in a popup or panel.
  5. Copy it to your clipboard and use it wherever you need (WordPress, Shopify, social media, etc.).

Pro tip: The add-on works with public images. If the file is behind a login wall or blocked, generation might fail.

Customization options

You can personalize how the add-on behaves:

Language - Choose the output language for generated alt text.

AI writing style - Pick a tone such as “neutral,” “descriptive,” or “minimal.”

Use keywords from web page - AI will consider keywords from the page to generate more relevant descriptions.

Auto-copy to clipboard - Automatically copy the result after generation.
