Firefox Add: API key is missing

This error means that no API key has been entered in the add-on settings. The API key is required to connect to our service and to generate alt text for images.

Without a valid API key, the add-on will not work.

Possible causes

  • You’re a new user and haven’t yet added your API key in the add-on settings.
  • The API key field was accidentally cleared or not saved.

How to fix it

Follow these steps to obtain your API key and add it to the add-on:

  1. Create an account (if you haven’t already)
Go to AltTextLab.com and sign up for a free account.
  2. Log into your account
If you already have an account, just log in.
  3. Go to the API key settings page
Once you're logged in, navigate to API key settings.
  4. Create a new API key
    - Click the Create API key button.
    - Enter a name for your key — this is only for your reference (e.g. “For Firefox add-on”).
    - Click Create API Key.
  5. Copy the API key
Your new key will appear. Click to copy it.
  6. Open the add-on options in Firefox
In your browser, click the puzzle icon in the toolbar to open the list of installed extensions.
Find AI Alt Text Generator | AltTextLab.com click the three dots next to it, then choose Options. This will open the extension options page in a new tab.
  7. Paste your API key
Find the API Key field and paste the key you copied earlier.
  8. Save the settings
Click Save to confirm your changes.
  9. Refresh the page
Go back to the webpage where you want to use the extension and refresh it.
