Firefox Add-on: Invalid API key

This error indicates that the API key entered in the add-on settings is not recognised or valid. Without a valid key, the add-on cannot connect to our service and will be unable to generate alt text.

Possible causes

  • You entered the API key incorrectly (e.g. missing or extra characters).
  • You pasted a partial or broken key.
  • The key has been deleted from your account.

How to fix it

Follow the steps below to correct the issue:

  1. Log into your account
Go to AltTextLab.com and log in.
  2. Go to the API key settings page
Once you're logged in, navigate to API key settings.
  3. Create a new API key
    - Click the Create API key button.
    - In the popup window, enter a name for your key — this name is just for you, so you can tell where you're using it (e.g. For Firefox Add-on).
    - Click Create API Key.
  4. Copy the API key
Your new key will appear. Click to copy it.
  5. Open the extension options in Firefox
In your browser, click the puzzle icon in the toolbar to open the list of installed extensions.
Find AI Alt Text Generator | AltTextLab.com, click the three dots next to it, then choose Options. This will open the extension options page in a new tab.
  6. Remove the old key from the extension
In the API Key field, delete the old key completely.
  7. Paste your API key
Find the API Key field and paste the key you copied earlier.
  8. Save the settings
Click Save to confirm your changes.
  9. Refresh the page
Go back to the webpage where you want to use the extension and refresh it.
