# Edge extension

> Generate alt text for any image on any website, right from Microsoft Edge.

## Installation

    Open the [AltTextLab page on Microsoft Edge Add-ons](https://microsoftedge.microsoft.com/addons/detail/alttextlab-%E2%80%93-ai-alt-text-/oplplfdponpgdnggleehfhbegfpihcfo) and click **Get**.

  <Step title="Open extension options">
    Click the AltTextLab icon in the browser toolbar (or find it via the puzzle icon) and go to **Options**.

  <Step title="Enter your API key">
    Paste your API key (from [dashboard settings](https://app.alttextlab.com/settings/api-keys)) and click **Save**.

## Usage

Right-click any image on a public web page and select **AltTextLab: Get alt text**. The result appears in a popup within seconds with a one-click copy button.

## Configuration

| Setting          | Description                                                                                               |
| ---------------- | --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Language         | Output language for generated alt text                                                                    |
| AI writing style | `descriptive`, `neutral`, `matter-of-fact`, or `minimal` — see [Writing styles](/features/writing-styles) |
| Webpage keywords | Extract page keywords to improve relevance                                                                |
| Auto-copy        | Automatically copy result to clipboard (requires the active tab to stay focused)                          |

## Requirements & limitations

Images must be publicly accessible. Password-protected or login-gated images cannot be processed.
